How Much Do Pavers Cost?
Paver material cost is determined by three things: how many pavers you need, how much each paver costs, and how much waste you factor in for cuts and edge pieces. The calculator handles the count automatically by dividing your project area by the face area of each paver, then applies your chosen waste percentage on top. The price-per-paver you enter should come from your supplier quote or local retailer, since paver prices vary considerably by material type and region.
Labour is typically the largest cost on a paver project and is not included here. Paver installation runs $10 to $20 per square foot installed in most US markets, covering base preparation, sand bedding, laying, and jointing. Material cost accounts for roughly 30 to 50% of the total project cost depending on the paver type chosen.

Why Waste Allowance Matters More With Pavers
Unlike poured concrete, pavers require cuts at every edge and corner. A standard running bond pattern on a rectangular patio typically needs 5 to 10% extra. Herringbone or 45-degree diagonal patterns can push waste to 15% or more because every edge cut produces a piece too small to use elsewhere. It's also worth keeping 10 to 20 spare pavers after the job, because if one cracks in the future, finding an exact colour match from the same batch is often impossible.
What's Not in This Estimate
The calculator covers paver material cost only. A complete paver project also requires a compacted gravel base (typically 4 to 6 inches deep), a 1-inch sand setting bed, polymeric sand for joints, edge restraints, and in colder climates a geotextile fabric beneath the base. These materials typically add $3 to $7 per square foot to your material costs on top of the paver price.

Labour accounts for 50 to 65% of installed paver cost in most markets. Regional wage rates, contractor density, and climate drive significant variation. Texas and Florida are consistently the most affordable markets due to high contractor competition and long installation seasons. The Northeast is the most expensive, driven by shorter seasons, union labour in some markets, and higher material delivery costs.
